Indoor Trials success
Malvern Hills Indoor bowler, Joe Peplow was invited to attend Disability Bowls England trials in Northampton last weekend to compete for a place in the national team. We were really pleased to hear that Joe has qualified in the B6 category. He will now represent England at Potters, Norfolk, in March and could possibly qualify for the Commonwealth Games in New Zealand. Many congratulations to Joe, who has worked so hard all year to reach this standard.
National Club Competitions
National Indoor competitions are now well underway: although the club did not make it beyond the first couple of rounds in either the Top Club or Egham Trophy competitions it was still encouraging as we have not entered teams for these particular competitions for a while and hopefully we will have more success next year. Teams are still engaged in the Mens Denny Plate and the Ladies Masons Trophy and individual bowlers are gradually progressing through the preliminary rounds of Singles, Pairs, Triples and Fours.
We have had around 50 new members join the club this year which is really encouraging. Some are experienced bowlers but many are new to indoor bowling. This has led to an increased take up of the offer of three free coaching sessions with Dave Jones on Wednesday evenings and Friday afternoons. Dave and his daughter Emily have made a real success of these sessions and everyone is finding them really informative and enjoyable – so much that two more coaches and an extra rink have been required! Many bowlers have continued with the coaching sessions beyond the initial start up ones and are now progressing so well that they are able to play for the club in mixed friendly games.
The contact forms on the website homepage are now fully operational. if anyone wants information about indoor bowls please use the “Ask about membership now” link on the homepage – this will open up a link to indoor bowls where you can email any enquiries that you may have – they do not have to be just about membership.
