Clubhouse Extension - Update

An update from Our Chairman - Mr Allan Homfray

Dear Member,

Clubhouse Extension – Latest News

May we thank members for responding so quickly to the call for help. We now need to begin the process of changing pledges of support into actual funds.

In terms of progress on the Extension project:

  • We have now received planning permission.
  • A local Contractor has provided us with a budget quotation based on the limited informationavailable. This budget quotation is higher than we had estimated and thus the need to raiseinternal funds becomes even more important.
  • The Architect, one of our own members, is producing a time schedule of building work, to ensure that the contractor appointed takes account of the start and end date required. The complexstructural changes and the re-routing of service connections require careful design work and detail drawings prior to going out with a formal enquiry to building contractors. This will not allow the purchase order to be placed as soon as we had hoped!

It is therefore with immense disappointment, we now realise the extent of this preliminary work will not allow time for the actual building work to take place this year. The Indoor Bowls season requires this work to commence 1st April and complete by the beginning of September of the same year. Failure to do this would mean, not only loss of Indoor Bowls revenue, but more importantly, would lose Indoor Bowls members. This means the demolition of the existing Indoor Bowls facilities begins first week of April 2013 and the new building and Indoor Bowls improvements made ready for use first week in September 2013.

In term of funding for the project:

  • The Trustees of the Club met to consider the proposals and are happy for the plans to proceed, butwith a cautionary note in the absence of building society funds, they believe that the bank borrowings should be capped at £50,000 to limit the Club's exposure. This brings an even greater necessity for internal support and funding.
  • The latest estimate suggests we will need £280,000 plus VAT.

The amount hoped to be raised from each funding source is shown below:

Existing Manor Park Funds

£75,000

Available

Internal Fund Raising and Donations

£75,000

£25,000 estimated from pledges received so far!

RBS or Allied Irish Bank

£50,000

Available subject to confirmation of appropriate security

Sport England Grant (Inspired Facilities)

£50,000

Application has been submitted and being reviewed

Lawn Tennis Association(15 year interest free loan)

£100,000

Application has been submitted and is being received favourably

In order to increase the level of internal funds generates, the Management Committee is suggesting a fourth alternative for raising funds and that is a £10 discount on membership for every £250 advanced to the Club.

The alternatives therefore are:

  1. Buy a Membership Discount Card* - cost of the card at £250 provides a discount of £10.00 from your annual membership. This £10.00 discount will remain for 10 years, after which your £250 will be repaid in full.
  2. Buy a Club Loyalty Card* - cost of the card at £250 provides a 10% discount on all food and drink bought from the new bar/café for a 5 year period, after 10 years your £250 will be repaid in full.
  3. Buy a brick - £25 per brick and your name will be registered in the record of the Manor Park Club as a contributor to this extension. Number of bricks which can be bought is unlimited, and bricks will also get you a loyalty card, for a 5 year period, but no refund!
  4. A simple donation according to your financial circumstances.

* A raffle will be held annually, over each of the 10 years to grant an early refund of the £250 advanced for those who want a refund. The refund for all remaining advances will be made within a ten year period or on ceasing to be a Club member, if earlier. All subscribers will be registered as contributors to the extension project.

If you are willing and able to support the Club, please download this form and return it, filled in with your choices, together with your cheque, or simply deliver it to the office during your next visit to the Club. These funds will be held in a separately identified bank account pending the start of the extension project. The Club will send you a receipt, against which repayment will be made should the project not go ahead. The benefits provided by the alternatives 1, 2 and 3 become available immediately your money is paid. The card will be sent to you with your receipt.
