Another National Success

Another National Success for an Indoor Bowler

Ryan Atkins of Malvern Hills Indoor Bowls Club, who also plays for Worcester Bowls Club outdoors has won the prestigious 'Warner Leisure Hotels' English Indoor Bowling Association Champion of Champions Singles event.
Atkins winning last years Malvern Hills singles title qualified him for this years event where he beat Nathan Kitchen, Mid Glos 21-9 and  Dave Magness, Leominster, 21-11 to qualify for the Area Final where he beat last years E.I.B.A. national singles runner-up Neil Smith, Westlecot, Swindon 21-14 on his home carpet.
Atkins then beat former England International Simon Jones of Desborough,Maidenhead 21-10 in the Inter Area to qualify for the National Finals held at the 'Warner Leisure Hotels' Hayling Island, Portsmouth complex.
Atkins continued his rich vein of form to defeat Matt Pownall, Desborough, Northants 21-10 and then beat Alan Binns,Croydon,Surrey 21-9 in the Quarter-Final.
In the Semi-Final Atkins defeated Paul Gent of the Angel club in Kent 21-11.
Onto the Final, Atkins raced into an 8-2 lead, but his opponent Chris Daniels of Bournemouth recovered and at ten ends Atkins still led 11-8.
Atkins drawing well then powered into a 17-11 lead and continued to hold an advantage 20 shots to13, although allowing his opponent 3 more shots before winning 21-16 to becoming the youngest winner of the event at 18 years of age showing great maturity
